Bad experience with LanguaTalk billing / Paddle support — double charged, then subscription canceled

I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is considering subscribing to LanguaTalk.

I had been using the free version for a while and decided to subscribe to the paid version. During the payment process, something weird happened: the payment appeared to go through, but then the page seemed to crash or not complete properly. So I tried again, and the subscription worked.

Because of that, I emailed LanguaTalk right away and asked if they saw two payments. They reassured me that there was only one payment.

So I contacted them again and asked them to refund/remove the duplicate payment. That was all I asked for. I did not ask them to cancel my subscription.

Instead, I received a message saying my subscription had been canceled. Now my LanguaTalk account shows that I’m back on the free plan, and I still don’t have the double payment resolved.

To make things worse, the billing/support side seems to go through Paddle. I tried to resolve it there, but the support experience is awful. It feels like an old automated bot with no real understanding of the issue, no clear email address, and no obvious way to reach an actual person. When I replied to the email, I got a “no-reply” response sending me back to the same useless support site.

So the current situation is:

  • I was charged twice.
  • I asked only for the duplicate charge to be refunded.
  • My subscription was canceled instead.
  • My LanguaTalk account now appears to be free again.
  • The Paddle support system makes it extremely hard to reach a human.

I actually wanted to use LanguaTalk and was willing to pay for it, but this has been a really frustrating billing/support experience. I wish companies would read support emails properly instead of reacting to one keyword like “payment” or “cancel” and making the problem worse.

Has anyone else had issues with LanguaTalk billing or Paddle support?
