Hi, I'm interested in learning a new language! I l’m thinking of learning mandarin. I've started using the app HelloChinese, and it is helpful, but I feel like it is not enough. I've concluded that first learning pinyin and how to speak is better, then after focusing on characters. Is that the right approach? Those of you that have learned, or are learning a new language by yourself, where did you start? What resources did you use? How long since you started and where are you at now? I grew up speaking 2 languages, and took Latin and high school, which isn't really taught like other languages, so I'm not sure where to start.
