What is practical vs what is interesting?

I'm interested in learning a new language as an English speaker in the U.S. Obviously Spanish tends to be pretty prominent here, I have a bit of a foundation anyways from my education, and I have a friend who is studying in college to be a Spanish translator. For whatever reason though, I'm just not all that interested in learning Spanish besides the practical benefits. On the other hand, I spent a month studying abroad in Korea, and I really loved the language. It just sounded beautiful to me. There isn't really a large Korean community where I'm from though. Is it better to learn a language that has plenty of resources in my surroundings, or is it better to learn something that I have a personal interest in? Is it possible to do both?
