How am I meant to use books with translations on the other page?

Hello! Recently as part of my language learning journey I picked up a book which has Italian on one page and English on the other. How best should I use this? Is it a case of reading the Italian section and until I get stuck and then checking the meaning in English? Or should I read it in English and then see how I would translate it and compare?

I know for sure reading out loud is a good way to internalise what I'm reading but past that I'm unsure...

I think ultimately the answer might be "Whatever works and feel right" but was curious what others find.
