Do you need to speak louder in tonal languages?

I've recently started to learn Thai, I know next to nothing about tones and try to learn.

But one thing I'm curious, do you speak louder in tonal languages than non-tonal? (for non-tonal language native speaker)

I'm quite a quiet speaker and can't get the tones... hearable? For myself, at least. So should I speak louder because that's how that languages works, or should I master my ears, or quiet pronunciation to not end up yelling at people?
