As I’ve shifted to learning Spanish after Mandarin, I’ve noticed a slight reduction in my (particularly speaking) abilities of the latter. This is entirely logical, as ceteris paribus second-language fluency decays without (a good bit of) practice.
But this begs the question of how significant is this decay — i.e., what’s a reasonable number of languages one might be able to have concurrent relative ‘fluency’ in?
