so im kind of debating with myself right now

everyone knows about weebs. i am NOT a weeb, but i do enjoy watching anime. it is NOT my whole personality. i also like listening to some old japanese pop songs from the 80s-2000s. and Japan has always seemed cool, so i thought of something. because i consume a fair share of japanese content, why dont i try to subconsciously learn it?

im in the process of learning korean too which im studying using the krashen method as well as traditional study method. but i thought i would learn hiragana, katakana, and a few kanji, then i would just jot down a couple words that i hear when watching/listening to any japanese, eventually being able to undertstand a little bit. Im not going to traditionally study japanese, unlike how im learning korean. this will probably take longer because im less focused on japanese compared to korean. but it will probably be easier since i consume more japanese content than korean.

let me know if this has worked for anyone, and how long it took. anyone who has ONLY used CI, and little to no studying.

and the next point i wanna bring up is that i dont want to be seen as a weeb. every now and then i see some dumb video on tiktok where some fat white dude with a body pillow says some bs like “i want to visit japan, just like anime!” most of it is satire, but clearly people who want to visit japan or learn the language are seen as weebs, and in canada/america, weebs are seen as weird.

im probably going to keep all of this a secret. i am white, but im not fat at all, and i am certainly not spending 10 hrs a day watchinf anime, so i have a life. i just wanted people’s opinions. do you guys think learning japanese makes me a weeb? or just someone who is interested NOT JUST in anime, but in asian culture, including japanese and korean? i know i shouldnt care what people think but i dont want to only be known as a ‘weeb’. what do you guys think? sorry im kind of rambling haha
