Has learning a foreign language, aside from English, benefitted you professionally in the USA?

I’ve seen plenty of naysayers disparaging any attempt to learn a language other than English, claiming that it is a complete waste of time and effort that won’t benefit you professionally since English is supposedly a global language that most educated businessmen already know, and employers who do require bilingual employees tend to favor native speakers of a foreign language that also speak English over English speakers who picked up a foreign language as adults. Putting aside the fact that people learn languages for plenty of other valid reasons like cultural enrichment, travel, interpersonal connection, and pure enjoyment, I want to know if anyone can rebut the argument that learning a language, like Spanish or Arabic, won’t get you a job in U.S.A. Are there any native English speakers here who picked up a second language later in life and used it to get a job?
