For the readers: what's the best type of material to read when studying?

Each material has its own way of using the language. More formal (e.g News Articles). More descriptions on the places, objects, feelings and plot (e.g fictional books). It's concentrated more on the words used in the everyday-life (e.g fictional books, non-fictional books, news articles) , or has a more emotional/abstract approach to the text (e.g. poetry, music).

What kind of written material do you prefer? I like to read, but it's hard for me to choose what to read. Fiction books? Non-fiction books? News articles? Songs?

What works the best for you and why?
