For self-language learners getting stuck or struggling with their way of learning

I'm a linguist now researching those language learners facing problems or struggles with learning language(s) by themselves, like learning for months with almost no improvement, not knowing how to learn effectively, what material to rely on, what activity to add in the plan, or not achieving the goal they should've done so far.
