are the groups of spanish, english and portuguese as different as the group of chinese, japanese and korean languages

for example, for a spanish speaker is easier to learn english than japanese, for a japanese speaker, could it be as hard to learn korean for him like the spanish speaker have it with english? the same with spanish speakers learning japanese and japanese speakers learning spanish
