Have been working on an interesting tool that uses words or sentences in a simple text file. The tool transforms these into spoken language, line by line. Each line begins with spoken English and then pauses a few seconds to give a listener time to think of the response in a target language (I am using Portuguese). Then the audio for the phrase in the target language is spoken. This process repeats line-for-line until the end of the text file. The tool uses Google's translation and text to speech (TTS) libraries. Since translate does not always give you the result you want, we can replace with a manual bypass for any phrase. Also, we have an ability to mix in native speech samples (as .mp3 files), which are spoken (bypassing the TTS), and this is for listening practice. So far, the experimentation is encouraging. I prepare a few input decks with phrases I want to drill on and play while driving and while working out. Is anyone aware of something like this? Am I re-inventing the wheel? Would anyone be interested in a tool like this?
