Learning fast through watching or reading

I started studying last month. I read a lot of people say that the faster way to learn is through watching videos that interest you.

-How about reading? Anyone here who started reading first before listening/watching videos? -I started watching kids shows but even those are hard for me. Which subtitle to use, English (because I still don't know many of the words) or the language I am learning?

Any other ideas will help me. Thanks!
