Finding alternatives to Memrise since the format change -- communal mnemonic based learning

Memrise used to be an excellent site to share silly mnemonics (what they called "memes" but not really memes) for vocabulary memorization. Hilarious catchy images and memory puns that catalyzed my progress, submitted from other learners and in a flashcard type format with the ability to compete. There were some really clever memory devices that I would have never come up with on my own and helped me get over the hump with more than one language, especially as I am more of a visual than auditory learner.

Then at some point either the website and app were sold or new management came in and they deleted several hundred thousand "memes" in one fell swoop. Not sure why, as it was their best feature. Now it's just another generic garbage language flashcard app with a limited spaced repetition protocol. Basically what Anki does but crappier and they charge a membership fee. Good times.

So on that note, does anyone know of a replacement that does what Memrise originally did? Ie. a compendium of everyone's mnemonics with visual aides in a flashcard type format? And with scoreboards/communication with other users to better gamify learning?

It seemed to me an incredibly brilliant idea that was sadly lost. I've been looking for a long while to try and find something similar to the original Memrise but have come up with bupkis.

Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.
