Our daughter is choosing a language to learn in middle school and is really undecided between French and Mandarin. She is fluent in Italian and has always wanted to learn French but has recently become interested in Mandarin. If she started off with Mandarin in middle school and then switched to French in high school (if she changed her mind) would that set her back a lot? Do most people continue with the same language? I’m wondering how common/ difficult this would be.
