I know it depends on what you're native language is, but is English actually the easiest language on its own or is it only that way because people are exposed to it from a young age, all around the world? It's hard to objectively measure, but there are aspects of the language that would suggest it's not that simple, but there are other aspects that are. Say French was the language the US decided to go with, would it then be viewed as the easiest language instead of English? I think probably not, although I'd argue Spanish is easier than English in some ways. Thoughts?
