Why does it seem like I am STILL learning my TL, even after so many years of studying it?

I am, quite honestly, rather embarrassed. I have been learning my TL for thirteen years. Despite that, it still feels like I am learning new things on a weekly basis.

As an example, I have only recently learned the word, "piebald".

I wonder, is it abnormal to still be learning new things even after so many years? Am I the only one? How unusual is that?

Thoughts?
