When is adult homestay immersion *not* worth it?

Thinking about a homestay program to learn French.

I'm starting a new job, and will be in French quarters in 3 months. Wondering about doing an immersion before hand for 2-3 weeks to kick-start. But, unsure if it's worth it. The programs seem to be grammar for the morning and then 1.5 hours of conversation after.

Just figure I can do the grammar on my own, and then pay for several conversations with iTalki etc. to get something similar. But price will be ~$700 week vs. ~$100
