Can we stop sharing FSI pictures of how long it takes to learn a language?

FSI is widely misunderstood as is. I don't think it should be used in the way it is today, for several reasons:

  • It assumes that you are a native speaker of English, and only know English.

  • It assumes hours of daily classes, including immersion.

  • It does not consider language output.

All these things mean it is a measure we shouldn't use to determine how long it takes to learn a language.
