Not sure if this is the right sub for this, but I find it interesting that the Burmese wholesale adopted the English word "democracy" rather than invent their own word for it like the Thai did.
Even the Lao and Khmer, under French domination, followed the Thai example. What makes it even more strange is that the Thai/Khmer/Lao term is of Sanskrit and Pali origin, a similar cultural influence to the Burmese.
