I first thought of an idea to learn the top 5 most spoken languages in the world and that would allow you to be able to communicate (not the best however) with a decent percent of the worlds population. But, if one were to learn languages such that they could travel almost anywhere without an issue of communicating with most people, for example knowing the lingua franca of most west african nations in france so if you know french you might be able to sort of communicate, how many and which woulds would one need? In other worlds, how many lingua francas and which lingua francas would one need to know to be able to engage with people (roughly) anywhere.
