Reading through the chat transcripts of googles AI Lamda and seeing its mastery of the English language made me realize that perfect and instantaneous translators are a lot closer than we think. There was also a news story recently that the parent company of Facebook (meta) is currently designing instantaneous translators using AI that they envision will be used in the metaverse in the future so that everyone can communicate with no barriers. It seems logical that these devices will be used in everyday life.
Curious how the language learning community feels about this?
Living in a world with no communication barriers is a net plus for the world for sure. But never discovering the joys actually knowing and experiencing a foreign language using only your brain is negative on an individual level.
