How to use “soit” in French?

I’m a French beginner and learning French through reading. I’m currently reading Les Fleurs du Mal (Thé Flowers of Evil) by Charles Baudelaire. I came across this sentence: Maudite soit la nuit aux plaisirs éphémères. Can someone explain why and how “soit” can be used in this context? I remember soit to mean “either” or “for example”. Thank you!
