How much would you say the accumulation of knowledge regarding how to learn a language has helped you in learning your target language?

What value would you place on your research on methodologies and theories on how to learn a language on where you are in your target language?

There is that eternal debate about when to stop hoarding methods and theories and just get down to learning. But surely there is some amount of research that is beneficial to acquiring a language.
