Does the way different languages feel change as you understand them more?

I started learning Italian about a year ago. At first listening to Italian felt like grass brushing on my skin everywhere, a really pleasant sensation. Now that I can understand more of the language it’s still like that but it’s a lot more muted. Is it like that in general when you learn a new language?
