Learning language guidance?

Hi,

So first and foremost, the boring stuff. UK based, never studied a language outside of school (used to switch off in French, can't remember any of the Italian I did). I want to change that. I'm looking at a couple of languages, and I just wanted to know if there is a way to find a good language tutor that's local to me. A company or website, for example, or if it's literally just word of mouth and recommendations.
