Is trying to prove yourself a part of anyone else's motivation for learning a language?

Lately, I've had this urge of wanting to prove myself with my target language. It's like I want to conquer this language and "show" people that hey, I can actually do great things. It's weird because there's no one in my life actively discouraging me or anything, but I still have this urge to prove myself to other people. It's not my main motivation, but it's one of them. Does anyone else feel this way?
