Paying attention to language in comprehensible input?

I think Krashen and others have said that you learn from understanding the message, and basically your subconscious will take care of the rest. It is not necessary (or maybe even discouraged?) to pay attention to grammar while consuming input.

I'm a believer in this focus on input, but what do you think about the usefulness of paying attention to grammar. Not stopping to analyze it necessarily, but noticing for example "hey that's the subjunctive, I can see why it was used there," or something like that. (I'm thinking of Spanish in particular.)
