I’ve been playing around with iOS Safari’s “Translate website” function, and I think I found a cheat code!

1) Make sure you have the necessary dictionaries enabled in your iPhone settings. 2) Open a webpage you want to read in Safari. 3) Single-click the Aa button just left of the URL field. 4) Click “Translate website” and select English. 5) Now, long-click the Aa button to enter reader view, which is the same page but untranslated. Now you can switch back and forth between your native and target languages super easily just by long-clicking in and out of reader view! 6) For any words you don’t know, just highlight it and press “look up”. Dictionary entries will pop up. If you need the translation for the whole sentence, you just leave reader view to look at the text in your native language.

boom shaka laka.

This is making reading Mandarin so much easier than all the other methods I’ve used for phone-only studying. Forget the Pleco and Google Translate apps; I’m set for life!
