Does anyone else find languages scaffolded on top of your other languages. (same family) to be easier to maintain/more difficult to forget?

I speak Mandarin and Spanish every day. I've learned Portuguese and some French recently. I don't practice the Portuguese terribly often, yet I still feel confident in my ability with it. I've also been learning some Cantonese lately and it has felt very quick and easy to remember, similar to when I learned some Taiwanse Minnan previously. I just thought I'd see what others experiences have been.
