A few days ago I started learning Japanese on my own, mainly for understanding historical documents and watching shows. So far I’m fairly confident with Hiragana and katakana, reading is still slow, but I get the characters. Now my big question: in my language learning app is an option to learn kanji or hira + kata, kanji words confuse the heck out of me, should I learn them from the very beginning or build up some vocabulary in the other writing styles and learn kanji later on?
