Is it better to remember the translation of a word from TL to your language or the opposite?

I started recently using Anki decks in my german learning journey, so I made a deck where I try to add a new word or two everyday. So it displays the word in german and I try to know the meaning or the translation before seeing the answer.

I don’t feel that this approach is the most effective to memorize the new words. Because I often know the right answer but I can’t recall the exact word in german, its article or spelling.

What do you guys think? And what do you think about using decks? Any other tips to learn and memorize vocabulary?
