Is it beneficial to learn a third language from the perspective of your second language, rather than from the perspective of your native language?

For example: lets say I am a native English speaker who learned how to speak Chinese, who now wants to learn Russian. Would it be a good idea to learn Russian in Chinese, or would it be more beneficial to learn Russian in English?
