Are most scientific terminologies written the same in both Chinese and Japanese?

I've heard of a piece of history that lots of Chinese names for electronic devices (such as the computer, TV and radio) were imported from Japan and given Chinese pronunciations. Is it also the cases for other scientific terms? I'm thinking of pursuing higher education or getting a career in one of these two countries so I'd like to know this as a bit of reference.
