Why is it "easier" to learn a language when you are younger?

This may be a dumb question, but i really dont get how learning a language is "easier" when you are young, ive been studying russian for a couple years and here on reddit im constantly told i should be more advanced than i really am at the moment (i blame this on time, i dont have much free time to study russian, but i do study it at least every weekend)

Why? like why does a young brain learn a language better? I would think that a fully developed brain would learn it better. I wanted to study russian till im 25 (2 more years) and hopefully at that point be good enough where i can read novels in russian and such, and than start picking up spanish or french, but is the older i get gonna make it just harder and harder to learn a language?
