How do Chinese speakers convey emotion if tone of voice changes the meaning of words?

I am really curious about this. In English, we convey our emotions partly using the tone of voices. When your dog is jumping up onto your leather sofer(lol), you tell him "get down!" in a tone similar to the Chinese 4th tone, but in Chinese, the meaning is conveyed through tone. I was wondering how they express emotion through their voice if using a different tone changes the meaning of the word. E.g. saying the word for "mother' Maa in a angry tone
