Has anyone started with focusing on listening and reading their target language, and than afterwards adding speaking? What downsides might arise from this?

I’ve been listening to Harry Potter books on audible and reading them in French and it’s been quite enjoyable. I feel like I might do this for awhile until I’m retaining more, and then slowly add in more conversational speaking French.
