Like if an Italian was talking with a Spaniard would they both understand each other right away or would they have to mentally translate everything the other person says? For example if the Italian says “non volevo farlo” does the Spaniard automatically understand that or would they have to translate it to “no quería hacerlo.” What does it look like for basic, easy sentences and phrases?
