This suddenly came to mind while I was watching an American guy playing with these Chinese children and talking to them in mandarin. As adults, we can usually tell straight away if someone is a native speaker or not by their accent. Even if said speaker is really fluent, their speech sometimes carries intonation pattens from their native language that seems to tip our brains off
I was wondering if children also hear accents, or are they too in their own worlds to really notice? Would they have that concept of “x speaks strangely = foreigner”
