Question about 2 teaching methods and their methodology to teach languages

My post is about 2 teaching methods.

- The first one is the natural method/direct method.

This was used by Lingua Latina per se (H. Orberg), and some books like for instance

The Wikipedia article talks about some of the principles of this method :

So, if I had to write a course, or a book using this method, what would be the methodology?

- The second one is a question about a method teaching though etymology an/or cognates.

Does a such method exist? Probably someone made a book or an article about it? I can't find.
