I'll never have as big a vocabulary or as deep an understanding of grammar as google translate, but I remind myself that I'm not learning a language in order to mechanically translate speech and documents. I'm doing it to have meaningful interactions with humans across the globe.
So if you root your learning in human relationships it may encourage you to learn more, faster.
