Taking tests in your target language.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to ask this subreddit if you think it's important to take tests in your target language? I don't use my languages in a professional capacity or anything, so for me a test is simply about determining my ability. Do you think it's worthwhile gaining qualifications in your target language?

The HSK exams arr relatively cheap. The most expensive is only £60. However, taking a test for a Goethe Zertifikat can cost over £200. I would be interested in taking the test, but the price puts me off.
