How can you sing in Chinese? (and others tonal languages)

I mean, Obviously you can, But I am intrigued about that system of tones and how it would be a shock for make it suitable in the occidental way of making music, Say for example you've Do-re-mi, But the word you want to say has a low-going tone, So, How does that solve or work to Chinese People? They would change the melody or do they has a system with other point of view about music? I'm curious

Something to take in consideration is Despacito (Yes seriously) because there is a Chinese version with Luis Fonsi that is sung in both Chinese and Spanish, And to me, It's seem like the majority of the song and the vocal melody stays the same, But, What do you think?
