I am learning spanish and along the way I am learning a lot about how languages develop over time. I have asked a lot of native English speakers and very few knew that Goodbye is a contraction of "God be with you" ,similar to how Adios in Spanish is basically "to God " or with God.
Just interested to know how many of you knew that saying goodbye is a religious blessing that we use all the time.
