I'm currently reading a book in Thai to improve my skill in reading the language. I know อ makes the sound "aw" and can be used as an anchor for vowels when no consonant is present. In this book, the English name Alice is written as อลิส so I think aw ang here is supposed to make an "a" sound. Is this use of อ also common?
