Someone yesterday commented on my post about the books I've read this year about how it was funny to see a fantasy book here that wasn't Harry Potter. So I was thinking we could cobble together some suggestions here for non-Harry Potter fantasy books.
My suggestion for English would be the Bartimaeus trilogy (The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem's Eye and Ptolemy's Gate). Probably my favourite book series from my teenage years and is both funny and exciting.
