Learn japanese as a german?

Hello,

I recently realized that i want to learn japanese, so i informed myself and bought the genkis book(as mentioned somewhere) and im actually happy with them, my problem is that i can't get the kana in my head and im not sure what the best way is to memorize them, also i would like to know if there is anything that i should know when im starting?
