Difference between Spanish Spanish and Mexican Spanish?

Guessing this is the place to put this...

My fiancee is of Mexican descent, I want to talk to members in her family like her grandparents that exclusively speak Mexican. When I was talking to my fiancee she told me that Mexicans generally speak a different type of Spanish and conjugate differently? Anyone with experience able to expand on this for me?
