I am pretty fond of languages, but when I am abroad I have a hard time trying to approach people in their own language and get a bit of practice. I never know what to say and, as I am timid, I was thinking that if only I had topics or something that could work like an ice-breaker or a conversation starter (apart from talking about the weather, of course) that would be really helpful. Any suggestions?
