Some people think that schools should stop teaching students by using books because students find them boring and that children can learn from films, TV, video games and computer instead. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
New media, fast and convenient communication tools, include films, Tv and PC games, has gained millions of children’s favor at present. Thus some people suggest that the campus should offer more new media tools to replace traditional books for children. As for as I am concerned, we should adopt some new media tools to improve ways of education, and combined with traditional books.
With increasingly new media technologies come into our daily lives, more and more kids prefer using iPad, smartphone or PC to acquire new knowledge instead of reading books. Because these new staffs could summon the curiosity of children, for example, educational apps in iPad, an interesting cartoon in PC videos, and they would study it as fast as possible. However, comparing with the books, children will not interested in those boring words and pictures, they even feel exhausted when they read books. So if the new media tools could make the children learn faster and more efficient than use books, why not try it? Perhaps some parents against that kids will too fall into new media to ignore their studies, and electronic productions also have disadvantages of their eyesight. But in my opinion, as long as a teacher could control the time of using these new technologies that children would not use it excessively.
But on the other hand, there is the equal significance in using books to teach students. The books that children have read could improve the language skills of students, the reader will pay attention to the book’s grammar and go into the atmosphere of stories, could even to practice their imagination via reading books. However, kids would focus on screen but ignore observing logics and grammars if they studied at electronic productions, which may cause the slowly thinking of children and bad writing skills.
In conclusion, not only we should continue using traditional books to educate students but also adopting new media productions aid teachers to teach children efficiently.
